They called pretending to be the police. Twice.

Four days ago, someone called me pretending to be Belgian police.

Today, they tried again. This time I recorded the call.

What worries me most isn’t the scam itself. It’s what they already seemed to know about me.

The caller introduced himself as an officer from Brussels South police. He knew my name and told me that two people had been arrested with a digital copy of my ID. He gave me a case number and said an official invitation would follow.

Then came the real question.

Do you use Ledger, Trezor or Binance?

I refused to confirm or deny it.

Four days earlier, another caller had spoofed the number of Vilvoorde police. When I called the real police station, I was told they had already received several reports involving people who had bought Bitcoin online.

Two targeted crypto-related calls in four days.

I don’t know where my data came from, and I cannot prove that both calls came from the same group. But it raises a much bigger question.
